Coffee
That’s Filtered
I can’t help myself but continue to chat about coffee; today I want to focus on brewing methods. A study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found that coffee drinkers who drank filtered coffee were 15% less likely to die over a 20 year period. Those who used filter-free brewing methods for coffee didn’t have any survival advantage, and folks who drank 9+ cups of coffee a day had an increased risk of death. The study was based on more than 508,000 Norwegian men and women between the ages of 20 – 79. In general, the healthiest coffee habit is 1-4 cups of filtered brewed coffee per day. As I like to say… A coffee a day keeps grumpiness away!
Chocolate
That’s Heat Resistant
As summertime approaches, temperatures rise but chocolate consumption never stops. And this summer, we’re in for a treat since Mars, Inc. has developed a chocolate that keeps its taste, mouthfeel, and shape during transportation in hot weather. There’s a lot of science that went into this special development, but in short, Mars is using a sugar replacement with a higher boiling point to create a more heat resistant chocolate. They’ve also developed a special multilayer package to minimize melting. With these improvements, chocolate shall remain intact without compromising taste or mouthfeel. Hey, I’d give up chocolate but I’m not a quitter.
