Veganuary
This is the last Friday in January, so before we say sayonara to the first month of this new year, we need to chat about Veganuary! Veganuary is a non-profit organization with the goal of encouraging as many people as possible to only consume plant foods throughout the first month of the year, with the hope that many of them will stay vegan after that. In January of 2021, Veganuary had more than half a million people in 209 countries and territories pledge to go Vegan in January, with the hashtag Veganuary having more than 170 million views on TikTok. This year, a YouGov survey found that 32% of Americans plan to eat more plant-based and vegan foods in the new year, and 30% stated their perception of the vegan diet has improved. Globally, a hurdle to stay vegan includes missing foods like cheese (41%), eggs (14%), milk chocolate (9%), chicken (7%), and milk (5%). With these new insights, looking forward to the vegan innovations that will come!

The ‘Conscious Consumer’
Innova Market Insights has just revealed that personal health and environmental concerns are the top trends of 2022. This year, planetary health is the top global issue, overtaking consumer health. This is in part because consumers feel jointly responsible, along with businesses, to protect the planet, which is where the term conscious consumer comes into play! For 2022, Innova Market Insights also predicts functionality and authenticity being the drivers for food and beverage innovation to come. So many great things to look forward to this year – ohh the snackticipation!
