Time Change on the Horizon
And So Is Carbon-Positive Supply Chain
It’s that time of the year again, Daylight Saving time is this Sunday, March 8. Although we lose an hour this Sunday (sigh), we gain some awesome news from Horizon Organic, who has committed to being carbon-positive in its entire supply chain by 2025. Horizon is the first national dairy brand to make this commitment. Carbon-positive goes above and beyond carbon neutrality; Horizon plans to remove, reduce, or offset additional emissions from entering the atmosphere. To do this, the company will support farmers with regenerative soil practices, cow feed and diet management programs, and focus on energy efficiency. This, in addition to Horizon’s Certified B Corp status, is making me excited for what’s on the horizon. 🙂
Transparency on the Horizon
Via the Rainforest Alliance
The Rainforest Alliance announced a new cocoa certification program that’s slated to be released in June and then rolled out over the course of a year. This new plan brings more transparency and responsibility in the cocoa supply chain to the forefront, and it includes stricter auditing, enhanced traceability, and performance monitoring. The certification will address environmental, social, and economic challenges faced by the cocoa industry. In addition to the new cocoa certification program, the Rainforest Alliance will invest $2 million to improve transparency and $5 million to launch a new Cocoa Sector Transformation Fund. Driving impact one cocoa bean at a time.
