Oh Snap!
I Need Gifts
Per the National Confectioners Association (NCA), more than 90% of Americans say they will gift or share chocolate and candy during the holiday season. To help folks responsibly consume these treats, the NCA has even set up digital resources and tools on its Winter Holidays Central website. According to this resource, there will be more options than ever with snacks that are 200 calories or less. This allows folks to manage their sugar intake without missing out on all of the holiday cheer! Per IndexBox, the U.S. chocolate market is expected to surpass a whopping $20 billion by 2025. And more than a third (39%) of U.S. adults bought chocolate candy from seasonal sections in the stores in 2016. Don’t have a gift? Just stock up on sweets (in moderation of course)!
And Then There’s
The New Year
What does 2020 have in store for us? According to The Specialty Food Association (SFA), we can expect to see ‘meat replacement pushback’. The trend of meat alternatives is still popular and expected to grow, but consumers will be more critical of ingredient lists. Value-oriented consumers are also on the rise, and sustainability call-outs on packaging will play a large role in the year(s) to come. Also, we should be on the lookout for fermented foods and prebiotic-rich ingredients. New year brings new snacks, new treats, new trends, new drinks. How exciting!
