Per Innova Market Insights, the No. 1 trend for 2020 will be to tell the story behind food and beverage products. Consider this… an estimated 56% of global consumers say stories about a brand influences their purchasing decisions. It’s no longer just a simple bite of something to eat. We want to feel like what we’re eating is a part of something bigger! This makes sense considering social and ethical claims grew 20% in 2017 vs. 2016. Cherry on top, according to Nielsen, almost half of U.S. consumers are likely to change what they buy based on the product meeting environmental standards. Now that’s deep.

Growing up I always thought “an apple a day” would keep the doctor away, so I sure had my share of apples. And what do you know, apple is predicted to be the top flavor of 2020. This better-for-you trend makes sense since apples help boost our soluble fiber and potassium intake. Not only is there an anticipation for apple flavoring, there’s some excitement around traditional apples as well. A new type was recently developed.
