Every Bottle Back
Recently, The Coca-Cola Company, PepsiCo, and Keurig Dr Pepper announced a new sustainability initiative with the World Wildlife Fund (WFF) known as Every Bottle Back. What’s the ultimate goal? To improve the U.S. circular plastics economy and increase consumer awareness about the importance of recycling plastic bottles. The more plastic bottles that are recycled, the less new “virgin” plastic is introduced into the environment. Which means more PET bottles will be reclaimed into new PET bottles, or even things like clothing, playgrounds, carpets, etc. On top of this, the three beverage companies are each donating $100 million to improve the recycling infrastructure. What does the future hold? Look for another WFF initiative, No Plastic in Nature by 2030.
We Want To Drink It
And Eat It Too
Staying on the sustainability topic, below are a few top packaging trends anticipated for 2020.
- Eco-friendly: We’re talking about zero-waste, edible packaging from materials such as potatoes, rice paper, seaweed, etc. In this trend compostable is big.
- Transparent: See-through materials are anticipated to grow, which means you’ll no longer have to ponder what’s inside the bag, box, etc.
- Simple: Calling out what you need to know quickly on the label, which gets us to the point faster.
The better-for-you trend seems to be making its way to the outside of the packaging as well, but only time will tell.
