Complex & Contradictory
So… in my mind I want to eat healthy, I say that I will eat healthy, but then come 3PM, I’m most definitely not searching for a carrot. Mintel understands me, they know that consumers are not only complex but also contradictory. We also know that what’s always on trend is the idea of finding a balance between indulgence and health, such as Oreo Thins, since they taste like the real deal, but they’re just smaller. Another way to indulge is through food texture. Based on 25 textures that Mintel tracks, five are the most common when it comes to indulgence: crunchy, smooth, soft, carbonated, and chunky. And finally, based on the latest at Mintel, the trend of protein is starting to shift away from ‘mega’ protein amounts (think 20g or 30g) to more moderate amounts. Let’s crunch to that!
